Hotel Jadran Skopje ***
Small Hotel with a warm ambience is located in the city center, 1 km from railway station; Hotel offers modern comforts, restaurant and bar; convenient city location for the business or leisure traveler. Jadran Hotel - the most gracious of all hotels is located in the very central part of Skopje. It is thoroughly renovated, with a characteristic oriental architecture. It offers a complete comfort, while keeping the charm and splendour of by-gone days. Each elegantly - classically furnished room is equipped with an air-conditionr, a bath, a radio, a phone, a TV set with a satellite programme and well stocked mini bar.
It has a great location in the centre of town, but this venerable late Ottoman-style hotel has more charm than comfort. There are some lovely wooden carvings but the bathrooms are rather ancient, with handheld showers grafted on to the old bathtubs.
For some bizarre reason this hotel doesn't have a sign, but you'll know it by its Turkish-style arches and stained glass rising above the door. If not, the moustachioed gentleman in the bow tie should confirm that you've stepped back in time to the Hotel Jadran. It's not a complete museum piece, as all rooms have a private bathroom and the toilets are modern enough. The single rooms are quite small, but the doubles are a reasonable size. They are clean although they all suffer from being a little dark. Apparently this hotel is due for a refit, so the cheap rates may not last for long. Here's hoping that they keep the bow ties and moustaches.
